Program Details:

Virtual Breakthrough Recovery Program specifically designed for collegiate athletes who have tested positive for drug use or facing alcohol misuse issues such as received a recent DUI.

  • Length of Program: The Breakthrough Recovery Program is a 12-hour self-paced online course spread over four weeks. During this time, athletes will participate in a weekly one-hour online process group session with a licensed provider to review that week's module.

  • Cost: Breakthrough Recovery is available for a one-time fee of $100 (per athlete), covering the entire program. This fee includes the 12-hour online course, weekly process group meetings with a licensed mental health professional, course assignments, and more. Participants will also receive a certificate of completion at the end of the program.

  • Accountability & Stay in the Loop: Reports on student-athletes' participation and attendance in the program will be provided to the Head Coaches. This enables coaches to stay informed about how actively the student-athletes are participating, attending, and engaging. Additionally, it provides the student-athletes with an external accountability partner, beyond the licensed professionals involved in the program.

  • Accessibility: We designed this program to fit the demanding schedules and responsibilities of student-athletes by offering it online and in a self-paced format. Group Zoom sessions are scheduled during times that work for athletes, such as early mornings and lunch breaks. At GearUp, we are committed to ensuring that accessibility is not a barrier to receiving the necessary education and support, which is why we also keep the program affordable for everyone.

  • Few topics: Several topics explored include the impact of substances on the brain and body, both short-term and long-term effects on performance, coping skills, and their relevance to life and broader contexts, among many other aspects.

The program educates athletes on the mental and physical impacts of drug use, offering practical strategies for overcoming substance use. Sessions are led by experts who provide in-depth knowledge on how substances affect brain chemistry, physical performance, motivational encouragement for change and long-term health. Coaches and athletic staff are notified of attendance and engagement, ensuring accountability and support.
